Another One in the Books

Last week's mass communication class wasn't one of the most memorable I've had but it was still pretty interesting. No one was threatened to be kicked out of class, which was kind of a disappointment. One thing Mark mentioned that really caught my attention was "how you feel about a something can change the meaning of it". I find this true even with myself. Everybody has a different perspective on things, and ones perspective is always affected by how they feel about it. Cheer leading is the best example that I can think of for this. People like me who play sports like soccer, football and hockey would never consider cheer leading a sport because I don't play it and it is more like dancing. Therefore, I don't consider it to be a sport. For girls though, and select guys, it is considered a sport. Girls don't have a lot of sports that are admired like men's sports are and they definitely don't have any of their own. This means that cheer leading is the only "sport" that they can call their own. Men define cheer leading in the most simplest of terms; leading a cheer. Women would define it as a sport, equal in skill level as major sports such as hockey and football. Perspective is everything in determining definition.
This is all I'm going to write about this weeks class because I have way too much work to do, although I would like to write more.
